A New English Teacher: Mrs. Pinkney

Sam Cerva, Writer, Interviewer

Mrs. Pinkney is the new English teacher in the EMHS junior home. I sat down with her to get to know her better.

She is from Gaithersburg, Maryland, and for the first two years of college, she went to Montgomery, then went to the University of Maryland. For the after activities she participated in, she has played softball. Before she came to Eastern Montgomery, she was a teacher at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. Her greatest challenge of being a teacher is trying to reach all the students, and her most rewarding experience of being a teacher was helping some students she taught previously to improve their writing. She stated that they now see where they were and where they are now.

Pickney states that English is important because, “it builds skills for functioning in the outside world. Reading Literature also builds self-awareness.” Her ultimate goal is to help kids develop an appreciation for writing, as well as improve and understand its importance.
