Want to get into the spirit for Halloween and not do so much work? These two simple recipes are perfect to make at home and taste really good! I have made them at school in my Intro to Culinary Arts and they have turned out almost too good. If you are interested in making these at school, but you currently don’t take the class, then you can join the Eat Right and Stress Less Club! “I think it’s fun making these the treats for Halloween and teach about nutrition in a very delicious way” is what Mrs. Yurick has to say about it. The club meets up during A-lunch on Thursdays and she would love to see you there! Anyways to get you started, here are two fun recipes to make at home.

 Rice Krispie Treat Pumpkins

Preparation Time – 20 min

Ingredients                                                                                    -1/4 cup of butter                   1 large bag of marshmallows  -6 cups of Rice Krispies        red and yellow food coloring -Mini Rolos or tootsie rolls  1/4 cup cooking oil in a bowl  Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat
  2. add the marshmellows and stir until completely  melted
  3. Remove from the heat and add the food coloring until it gets orange (Be careful with the red)
  4. Add Rice Krispies and stir to combine.
  5. lay out parchment paper for the rice krispie, coat you hands with cooking oil and carefully grab a generous amount of rice krispie and roll it into a ball, then set on the parchment paper.
  6. While the rice krispies are still warm, grab the rolos or tootsie rolls and put it on top to form the stem.
  7. Allow it to cool and then enjoy!

S’more Critters

What you’ll need: graham crackers, chocolate cookies, chocolate frosting, mini-regular-jumbo marshmallows, chocolate covered raspberries, mint creams or raisins, chocolate sprinkles.

What to Do: slice regular and jumbo into rounds as desired. Place the marshmallows on a baking sheet and toast under the broiler:let it cool. Make eyes by dolloping each marshmallow round with frosting and topping with a chocolate-covered treat. Spread cookies with frosting. Top with one or two eyes, mini marshmallow “teeth” and sprinkles, as desired.

Remember the most important thing is to have fun with it and have a Happy Halloween!
