ChocolatePaper

ChocolatePaper

Whenever you hear ChocolatePaper, you instantly know the name by their reputation for having amazing chocolate, but they are so much more than a chocolate store. ChocolatePaper is a family owned business that is located in downtown Roanoke. There is a total of four owners, and they are all related. Maiah McNeil, operations manager, said, “One thing that I think sets us apart from other businesses is that we are a tight net family business.” The environment is very family friendly to their workers and costumers. The owners take them in and treat them just as if they were their own. “Because we have a small staff, when one of us is hurt, or going though hard times, we all feel it, and that is one thing that makes working here that much better”, Maiah McNeil said.

Chocolate paper has been around for over 12 years however they have not always been in the location that it is now. Back in 1985, they owned a business called, Cards Cards Cards. This store was located in the market building, but sadly they lost it due to the flood of ’85. Once the owners started to rebuild, they decided to rename the business ChocolatePaper. The store originally got its name because they sell chocolate, cards, and gifts for every event. The owners believe that with every card sent, you can give chocolate with it, so they make sure to sell both in their store. With this being said, Maiah stated that their busiest time of the year is during Christmas, but that they are also very busy around Valentines Day and Easter.

When asked about her favorite part of the job, she said it would be just working with the customers and sharing the experience with them. Maiah is the operations manager which means that she oversees how the store runs as a whole.

At the end of the day, ChocolatePaper is more than just a little shop in downtown Roanoke that sells chocolate. The owners and workers there treat you as family. When you walk in, you can tell that they take pride in what they do and they are the definition of what teamwork is. While there are many different shops in downtown Roanoke, when you walk into ChocolatePaper, you can tell that everything is a unique and you can not find anywhere else. From the way they design their shop, to how they always strive to make you feel welcomed, ChocolatePaper should be on your list when you visit downtown Roanoke.
