EMHS Soccer Advances to States! EMHS vs Bath 6/4

June 4th was a very important night for Eastern Montgomery High School. On this day, EMHS girls’ soccer entered the state quarter-final game against Bath County. EMHS has only had a girls soccer team for the past two years, and now they have made states for the first time!

The lady Mustangs have remained strong all season with a 14:2 record.  Samantha Newcomb has enjoyed the comradeship of her teammates stating, “I love how we have new people who have joined our team and it makes us stronger.  We all get along so well!”

Throughout Tuesday night’s game, sophomore Shae Davis scored three goals with one assist, sophomore Sarah Weatherspoon made three goals with one assist, sophomore Elli Underwood scored two points and had two assists, while Samantha Newcomb and Laken Smith scored one each for the lady Mustangs and Laken Smith had three assists, and Yesenia Mercado and Jessie Blankenship both had one assist each.

The final score for the game was 10-1, thus, resulting in another big victory for the Mustangs! With this victory, the soccer team is now in the semifinals for states. Their next game is at Radford University Recreational Fields on June 7th at 11:00 AM.
